Tamworth hit six in new boss’ first game, Stone earn sixth straight win

Struggling Tamworth earned an emphatic win in their game under new manager Andy Peaks.

The new Lambs boss was appointed last week but had to wait for his first outing after last weekend’s fixture with Leiston was rained off.

He did experience a dream debut in the end, Tamworth thrashing Barwell 6-0.

James Hurst grabbed a brace before Jack Thomas and Ryan Beswick netted after half-time.

Star striker Dan Creaney found the net on 66 minutes while Jordan Clement rounded off the scoring in the final minute.

The win takes Tamworth five points clear of the Southern League Central Premier Division drop zone.

Meanwhile, league rivals Hednesford Town lost 1-0 away to AFC Rushden & Diamonds – the clubs Peaks left to join Tamworth.

In the Northern Premier League, Stafford Rangers beat Staybridge Celtic 2-0 in stay ninth in the Premier Division.

Chasetown are third in the Midlands Divison after a 2-1 win away at Soham Town Rangers.

Leek Town beat Prescot Cables 1-0 to remain fourth in the West Divison while Kidsgrove Athletic drew 0-0 with Marine.

Newcastle Town defeated Colne 1-0 away from home thanks to Jacob Lovatt’s 23rd-minute strike.

Stone earn sixth successive win

Stone Old Alleynians made it six wins in six with a 2-1 win over Walsall Wood in the Midlands Football League.

An own goal and a Jack Bowater effort were enough to see the Premier Division side to maximum points.

Hanley Town lead the division by 18 points after a 2-0 victory against Whitchurch Alport.

Aaron Cole and Charlie Walford goals saw them over the line.

Lichfield City stay second for now after a 2-1 defeat to Shifnal Town, albeit are on the same points as third-placed AFC Wulfrunians having played a game more.

Uttoxeter Town, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with Tividale.

In Division 1, Stapenhill stay second after a 2-0 win over Nuneaton Griff while Heath Hayes defeated Cradley Town 4-1.

Coton Green are just two points off the top of Division 2 following a 3-0 win away to Lane Head.

In the North West Counties Football League First Division South, Stafford Town fell to a 6-0 defeat to Abbey Hey.

Lee Cropper earned Abbey Hulton United a 1-0 win over Ellesmere Rangers with his goal while Reg Smith’s effort saw Brocton to a 1-1 draw with New Mills.

Finally, a Liam Robinson double helped Eccleshall to a 2-0 win over Barnton to see them go nine points clear of the relegation zone.
