Three Staffordshire clubs handed walkover wins, Stoke suffer rare defeat

As a result, little action took place

Three Staffordshire rugby clubs were handed walkover victories this weekend, handing them an automatic win without having to step onto the pitch.

All of them came in the Midlands Division 5 West South, with second-place Cannock receiving a walkover win against Stourport.

St Leonards and Stone were handed the same against Five Ways Old Edwardians and Redditch respectively.

Meanwhile, Division 3 West North bottom club Eccleshall surrendered a walkover win to Handsworth.

Lichfield are now 12 points clear at the top of Division 1 West after a huge 60-7 win away at Old Halesonians.

Their big lead comes courtesy of a rare loss by Stoke, who went down 17-13 at home to Kenilworth. They remain second for now despite suffering their third loss of the campaign on Saturday.

Leek are six points ahead at the summit of Division 2 West North after a 25-19 triumph over county rivals Stafford.

They face second place Walsall next week in a potential title decider.

Finally, Newcastle earned a 32-5 win over Stourbridge Lions in the same division.
