High-fives for Leek Town, stoppage time equaliser for Stone

The league tables are starting to take shape

Leek Town stayed on course for their promotion push with a comprehensive victory over play-off-chasing Clitheroe in the Northern Premier League on Saturday.

Leek romped to a 5-0 victory in the West Division, Will Saxon bagging a brace.

Jack Wakefield opened the scoring for Leek on 22 minutes before Dan Trickett-Smith and Tim Grice got on the scoresheet within the final 20 minutes.

League rivals Newcastle Town beat Kendall Town 2-0 thanks to strikes from Jack Birks and Lewis Jarman.

Meanwhile, Kidsgrove Athletic fell to a 3-0 defeat to Prescot Cables as they sit fourth from bottom.

Chasetown are third in the Midlands Division following a 3-1 triumph at home to Coleshill.

Joey Butlin struck first on six minutes before John Atherstone and Jack Langston notched in the second half.

In the Premier Division, Stafford Rangers were held to a goalless draw with Hyde United while in the Southern League Central Premier Tamworth lost 4-0 to Coalville.



Last gasp leveller for Stone

Jack Tomlinson netted in the 96th-minute to rescue a point for Stone Old Alleynians as they drew 1-1 with Stourport Swifts in the Midlands Football League Premier Division.

Meanwhile, Hanley Town further extended their lead at the summit following a 2-0 win against Romulus.

Goals from Charlie Walford and Louis Dodds saw the club 17 points clear in top spot.

Lichfield City stay second on goal difference after drawing 1-1 away at Wolverhampton Casuals.

Stapenhill drop to third in Division 1 after going down 2-1 to Bliston Town while Coton Green are second in Division 2 following a 2-1 victory over Inkberrow.

Reg Smith grabbed a hat-trick as Brocton smashed bottom North West Counties Football League First Division South club St Martins 5-0.

Jake Thomas and Ben Haddaway also fired home to cap off a memorable match for the Badgers.

Eccleshall are now only in the bottom three on goal difference after a 1-1 draw with Staffordshire rivals Stafford Town.

Declan Arber netted after two minutes for the hosts before Luke Lewis equalised for the Eagles just before the break.

Finally, Abbey Hulton United lost 1-0 at home to Cammel Laird 1907.
