Cannock thrash St Leonards, derby wins for Stafford, Longton & Trentham

Cannock are second in Midlands Division 5 West (South) after thumping St Leonards 61-14. They have won all three of their opening league matches.

Elsewhere in the division, Stone fell to a 10-3 loss away at Bloxwich.

Barton-under-Needwood are top of Division 4 West (North) after a solid victory over Yardley & District.

Will Jay, Harry Roden and Sam Willets all ran over tries to see the hosts to a 17-11 win.

The win didn’t come without cost through with Will Bagnall and Phil Harris both limping off with respective groin and hamstring injuries.

A Yardley player also had to go to hospital with a concerning injury.

Barton are still unbeaten having won all three of their matches so far this season.

Longton claimed an impressive 26-20 victory over Uttoxeter in a Staffordshire derby.

Gareth Rawlings, Jake Boatfield and Ricky Betley were amongst the try scorers for the team now second in Division 2 West (North).

Henry Knox and Jake Cabrera touched down for Uttoxeter but it wasn’t enough to see them move up from second bottom.

Stafford beat Newcastle in close encounter

A double from Jerry Qasenivalu saw Stafford to a 23-19 win over cross-county rivals Newcastle.

However, the visitors will be worried about key man Christian Stelian, who went off with a knock.

Meanwhile, Tamworth earned a 13-all draw away at Moseley Oak.

Stoke made it six wins in six with a huge 53-25 win over Sutton Coldfield in Division 1 West.

They are three points ahead of third-placed Lichfield, who defeated Kenilworth 36-24, having played a game more.

In the Midlands Premier Division, struggling Burton fell to a 57-27 loss to Bromsgrove.

Kieran Jackson, James Davies and Harry Titley all got on the scoresheet but couldn’t prevent their team falling to a fifth defeat in six games.

Eccleshall were humbled by Shrewsbury, going down 53-5 to their Division 3 West (North) opponents.
